Before arrival in the hospital

Weight-loss surgergy / Preoperative diet

For weight loss, you should keep a preoperative diet 1 week before your surgery.

This diet helps the surgeon to do finer work, as a preoperative diet is used to produce cirrhosis of the liver.

You are not obligated to undergo this diet but a preoperative diet is recommended and is only intended for the period before surgery. It should not be continued after surgery.

Why should I keep this diet?

With this diet, fat content and carbohydrates are kept low in order to reduce the glycogen balance. Do not let yourself be seduced by a big or rich menu before surgery, as this would immediately reverse the effects of shrinking your liver.

Recommended diet before a weight-loss operation

Your preoperative bariatric diet includes a high protein content and low carbohydrates in connection with plenty of fluid.

The week before your surgery, the bariatric diet will consist of foods such as: soup, jelly, pudding, sugar-free juices and an easily digestible diet. Sweets and soft drinks are not allowed. Drink 1 l of water daily. Vegetables and a selected piece of fruit as a snack are allowed.

We ask patients who consume large amounts of caffeine-containing beverages to discontinue them 2 weeks before surgery.

On the day of the surgery: Neither eat nor drink / water only in exceptions.

After treatment a 3-day light diet.
